Could you possibly have an older version of the classes or JAR in your
CLASSPATH, Richard?  According to today's CVS, that method signature
should be fine.

jdom/src/java/org/jdom/input/DOMBuilder.java:    public Document
build(InputStream in) throws JDOMException
