I recently did this, so:-
            String xmlSnippet = "<element><yadayada>data</yadayada></element>";
     StringReader sr = new StringReader( xmlSnippet );
     SAXBuilder builder = new SAXBuilder();
     Document xmlDoc = builder.build( sr );
The research took longer than the code.
